you're the magic that holds the sky up
the people next to me have accents

1:43 p.m.

the day began early, which to me, means any time before noon. it would be funny if i were joking, but since i'm not, i guess it's sad. and a little bit funny too.

i had packed a mere 6 hours before this, and had lamented over the fact that although my suitcase was full to bursting, i still don't own one nice outfit. alas. but now it was done, the songs had been song, and i'm going to end this sentence so that it doesn't sound like i'm typing in some sort of meter.

mom and i drove down to saint mary's to meet rachel (who absolutely refuses to own fewer than two toothbrushes, i discovered), over packed rachel's wee little honda, linda by name, and said our goodbyes. rach and i then drove the (low riding) honda to the eastern shore. on the way we had many discussions about things we hoped, feared and laughed at. we analyzed our parents. we analyzed ourselves. we analyzed ben folds lyrics. and then we played six degrees of separation, and i of course won. haha.

we arrived in ocean city, scoured for our place of employment, and picked up the key to our dorm. we met kristie, one of rachel's best friends, and our roommate this summer, and we walked to the dorm building. actually, we walked around a great deal looking for the dorm building, because we didn't want to admit to our boss that we didn't actually know where it was. finally, we found a door to fit our key, and have continued to assume that we're not trespassing. the dorm is actually a lot nicer than i was expecting, and infinitely dirtier than i can stomach without reaching for the lysol. there's a loft. la la la.

we walked the boardwalk last night, which was riotous fun until a creepy guy began talking to us.......and then didn't stop for an hour. and then we ran to the beach to get rid of him.

this morning, i discovered the uncanny ability of the shower to emit only cold water. this will be shortly remedied, as i plan to put up a stink.

since this morning, i've been walking around, looking for a part time job for the mornings. Candy Kitchen seems thrilled with me, but i'd rather not work there. i walked into a tiny cafe to see if they were hiring, and the guy who answered me had a russian accent (a little close to home, for my liking.) he said they weren't, but as i was walking away down the street, he came after me and asked if i wanted to work in his nightclub (stop laughing, julia). i said, no, i can only work mornings. he said goodbye, and then he and his russian self walked back in the cafe.

i've also decided i'd like to be more readily friendly than i am.

off i go to seek further employment. seems i'm always doing that.

oh yeah, if you're coming to visit, send me an email, please. i can check it at the library across the street. boo yah.

though you might hear laughin', spinnin', swingin' madly across the sun, it's not aimed at anyone, it's just escapin' on the run
